I hate to see anyone fired...

...but John Paddock had to go!
Maybe now the Sens will actually make the playoffs. At this point, I'll just settle for a goal. It's been soooooooooooo long.

I agree. I missed the old coach so much. :) Can't wait for the party on Elgin!

GO SENS GO!

The Canadians are freakin' me out with their shinanigans... they go and trade Huet for a 2ND round draft pick - what the hell were they thinking? They get no impact player to add to the team. I will be glad if they don't make the play-offs and they just fire GAINEY right now on the grounds of STUPIDITY!

did I sound just a little peeved in that last post?

Yeah. Don't be heartless. I mean, look what poor Bob Gainey's been through the past couple of years. And they just retired his number, how could they fire him so soon?

Geez, Maria, show some compassion.

Heart you.

He still needs to do something with that team! I know he's been through a lot and I am a VERY compassionate person - really I am. Do I not sound it?

By the way, I loved his retiring jersey thing it was so touching. Especially since 23 is the date of my B-Day... and one of MY lucky numbers at the casino!

Compassionate - no?

Okay, okay, I give up: you're compassionate, dammit.
It's the compassion version of tough love, I guess.

Bob Gainey is brilliant, regardless of what the Montreal press wants you to think. There was no market for Huet, and Price is the better goaltender. They've made room financially for an impact player in the summertime, and they're trying to get this current group of guys to gel the way they are, rather than trade away three good players for someone like Hossa - who, if he was any good in the playoffs, would still be in Ottawa...but he sucks in the playoffs, so the Sens dumped him long ago. He's a selfish player, and Pittsburgh can have him. Huet was good, but not good enough for the money he was making, and since it didn't make sense to have three good goaltenders - Huet, Price, and Halak (who on some nights is superior to Price), and since Huet was always nervous and played worse when Price was sitting on the bench (rather than when Price was here in Hamilton, and didn't seem as much of a threat for the starting job), something had to give, and they couldn't very well trade their future goaltender away.
...but speaking of goaltending, I think Ottawa may be in trouble there. If Murray doesn't straighten Ray Emery out, and Gerber - who's looking more like Swiss cheese than a Swiss golatender these days - doesn't start playing as well as he was playing earlier this season, the Sens might make an early exit from the playoffs in a year when they were expected to return to the Final.
Maria, be patient. Can't turn the whole ship around too quickly, but they're ahead of where they thought they were going to be. We watched Carey Price help win the Calder Cup Championship for the Bulldogs here in Hamilton last year, so Montreal is definitely on the right track.

The problem with Emery is that no one else wants him and the attendant off-ice crap that goes with him. The media has been kind, not revealing the full extent of his immature shenanigans.
Given a chance to play more often, I think Gerber's confidence and therefore performance would improve.
