Red Hot Kohls R.I.P.

Kenneth " Donald The Red Hot " Kohls
Peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Thursday, April 10, 2008. Beloved husband of the late Elva Marie Kohls. Loving father of Nancy, Vaughn (Tammy) and his grandaughter of Bronte, Paige (Bill Sonier) and Kyle Kohls-Wiebe (Megan) and granddaughter Ceepha. According to his wishes, funeral arrangements are private and are in care of the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

N@, Ma and others will relate to this. Red Hot was a long-time radio morning man in Timmins and the Ottawa Valley. I listened to him as a kid, and had the privilege of working with him as an adult. For all his crazy, on-air antics, Red Hot was a shy, sweet man off-air. The big control room in the sky is now home to another legend.

Rest well, my friend.

RED HOT!!
I love that photo.
He was a great guy. Will always remember his stack of carts and sound effects!!! That was true radio from a guy who really loved it. One of the best.

RIP RED HOT.

I was very sad to hear of Red Hot's passing. We worked together on the morning show at CKGB Timmins in the mid 1970's and kept in touch with Don and his lovely late wife Elva ever since, but unfortunately not nearly enough. I echo the comments about Don. He was one of the warmest and whackiest radio personalities ever. His characters such as Belvedere Perkins and the bird Percy Footlapp (I still have a Percy hand puppet) were legendary.
RIP Don

Just came across this website and wanted to leave a message. I worked with Don at CKGB AM in Timmins in the early 1970's after he moved back from Ottawa. He was a marvelous on air personality. Off air he was a gentleman. I remember trying to decide whether to stay in radio or head off to university and Don took me out for lunch to talk about it. That helped me make a decision and I have never looked back. Many thanks Don and rest easy. The "mike" is off.
