Good news on the job front

After six months of sweating it out and looking (unsuccessfully) for a new job, I am not going to be laid off by A-Channel Ottawa on January 19 after all. I have been offered a news producer position, and intend to accept it tomorrow.

It means I'll be working weekends and three evenings a week, but it is a job, and takes the pressure off while I continue looking, partly because the very future of A-Channel is anything but guaranteed, in light of the CTV buyout of CHUM, and the likely requirement that it will have to unload any A-Channel in a city that already has a CTV station, as Ottawa does.

It also allows me to get on with my life, and make plans to travel this year, for instance. First stop: Punta Cana in April, for the wedding of the daughter of some very good friends of mine from Iroquois Falls.

I just wanted to share the news with my fellow bloglodytes; thank you for the moral support the past six months since I got my layoff notice; and to say "Phew!"

The deed is done. I've accepted the job, and already placed a call to the travel agent to confirm my spot in the wedding group.

Life is good.

It's not good because I am not going with you.

Bob, do you need a date? Cause I know a girl with a sexy blackdress who's never been to Mexico...:)

Dammit. Stuck with you at work indefinitely then huh?!?!

LOL! This is really great news Bob. Glad I was able to shake your hand and tell you congrats today before I read it here.

And congrats on a GREAT book for A Channel too! I know that the hard work and commitment you have to that place is a big reason why they showed so much growth in their newscast.

Congratulations, Bob.
I'm just glad we'll still be able to call you "Newsguy Bob" now, rather than having to change it to - you know, like "Floral Arranger Bob" or "Building Superintendent Bob" (a couple of options available to us media types when our gig goes south).

Sincerely good news, brother.
Good on ya.

Okay, three things.
First: "Floral Arranger Bob" would be FAB.
Second: Floral arranger -- not that there's anything wrong with that.
And (c): Um, CQ, not that I want to embarrass you and your drop-dead gorgeous little black dress, but Punta Cana is in the Dominican Republic, not Mexico.

Hey, N@, Corn, Flea, Chachi, Maria, AW and everyone else in Montreal: I'll wave atcha tomorrow on the way through on the hockey bus. We're takin' Les Boys to a tournament in Quebec City -- actually, l'Ancienne Lorette. I hear QC is beautiful any time of the year. I hope to get to see some of it.

I was going to tell CQ the same thing about Punta Cana NOT being in Mexico but you beat me to it.

You are taking the Boys to a tourny in QC - good for you. Stay away from Montreal I hear the hockey coaches out here are NUTS! lol there was an ad in the paper the other day about some NUT cussing out the referee of 14 year old boys! CRAZY!

P.S: I will wave back, I will be the one in the red shirt and parasuco jeans. OR as JB calls them "pair 'o' sucko jeans. lol
