HELP, FELLOW BLOGLODYTES

I just bought new salt and pepper shakers, cuz the other ones got broken during my move. So far, that's the only casualty, so not bad.
The only problem is the new shakers aren't labelled (yet). One has three holes, the other has five. I'm guessing that it's three for salt, five for pepper. Am I right?

Yes, the other way around, buddy. Wow -- you DO have serious problems. I shudder to think of what could have happened if you'd mixed them up.

Thanks, Ann Landers and Dear Abby. Aren't you glad that I had the wisdom to ask, put aside my macho pride and asked.

Verification word; siswx -- You two are my siswxes.

I have a solution for ya... I saw these really cool salt & pepper shakers the other day at the Montreal casino giftshop. There was one is white shaped like an "S" and another one in black shaped as a "P" --- now I think those would be good for you and eliminiate any confusion. I probably would have gone with 3 for salt and 5 for pepper just as you did.

WHat do we know?

Here's the final word from an expert.
Claire, the owner of Ma Cuisine, a kitchen specialty store in Ottawa's Byward Market, tells me that it used to be one for pepper and three or five for salt. But now, in these more health-conscious days, it's the other way around, to reduce your salt intake. She qualified that view by saying that it's an individual thing, and to do it the way you want to.
Still, Maria, my little baklava, those shakers would be great.
