I knew that my new place, situated where it is, would give me an opportunity to spot some wildlife. I've already seen a lot of birds, most notably a red-winged blackbird. Even if I didn't see the birds, they leave proof of their presence all over my car.
I just happened to look out the window at about four o'clock this afternoon, and there was this beauty:
My neighbour had told me about spotting her in the early morning, but at 4pm? When I went out onto the balcony to take a few photos, he was also on his balcony watching her. He figures she probably came across the highway (actually, the Blackburn Bypass) at night some time, and is now spooked by it during the day. Of course, we joked about putting her on the barbecue. I have eaten barbecued venison. It's delicious.
Anyway, it's times like these that I wish I had a better camera, with a longer lens. I'll have to invest in one before my trip to Dubai in December.

you got Deers walking around in your backyard? Sweeeeeeeet!
In addition to buying a camera maybe buy yourself a shotgun!!
OK there animal lovers before you start to pounce on me I am ONLY KIDDING!! Geeeeeez!
Better than gorilla scrotum on your balcony.
(here come the jokesters...)
Yeah, not that I've ever eaten gorilla scrotum, but I imagine that venison on the barbecue is better.
You leave Bambi's mother alone I might have to make you scro and tumless .
Forget digital zoom. Get the longest optical zoom you can. Digital adds/subtracts based on what it THINKS it sees. Optical gives you the real deal!
Then worry about megapixels... you can always take a good shot that doesn't fill a frame and crop it so it does.
My favorite point and shoot these days is Canon PowerShot S3 IS.

Homme de Lait: I was thinking about consulting you about what to get.
Does Canon PowerShot S3 IS come with optical zoom? How 'spensive is it? I might check out Future Shop this week, because all the Ottawa stores have sales because of the new one that just opened on Innes Rd.
My camera is a PowerShot A60, only 2.0 megapixels, and sooooooo 2003. I bought it during the 2003 Boxing Day sales.
As usual, Milky, you're my hero and you rock, Dood. If I ever need a Big Brother, it's you. That thing about me being 11 or 12 years older than you: minor detail.
Another way you've influenced me: I haven't built anything lately or figured out how a poop pipe works, but I HAVE been finishing a desk that my parents bought for me, unfinished, at Consumers Distributing in 1986. Some day, I'll post before and after pics.
The S3 IS has been replaced by the S5 IS as of just weeks ago - some stores still have the S3 in stock... it's around $400. The new S5 is about $600.
Here's the details on the S3 - http://www.dpreview.com/news/0602/06022111canons3is.asp - I've recommended it to 3 people now, including my Dad, and they all swear by it.

So you would still recommend the S3 if I can find it.
Where would you recommend I look? Future Shop, Henry's, Black's...?
