HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Happy Father's Day to all Dads, especially THE Dad in our little cyber family, JB. I hope the recuperation is going well.

I called my Dad last night, knowing that I would be working today, and going out for din-dins tonight.

I love and cherish my Dad, and hate what the ravages of time are doing to him and his once-sharp mind.

I haven't seen my Dad (who I usually call "Paw", as the grandchildren all do, including Little Bro Dan) since last July, and look forward to spending some time with him and StepMama next month.

This is Dad/Paw, taken last year at the cottage. I've never gone this long without seeing him in person, so I'm really anxious to go to the cottage next month.

Thanks - expecially to you for posting it - but also to misster kitty, t, and maria for chiming in. I got home yesterday afternoon, but the drive from Burlington to Brantford was more than my new hip could take, and I have been in complete agony...just coming out of it now. Didn't sleep for 24 hours because of it. Many, many, Tylenol 3s and an incredible wife to care for me later, I am in our basement sending you this note to let you know I'm well...borderline, but well...currently getting very dizzy from the pain as I write this, and heading back upstairs to lie down for about a month (not kidding), maybe 6 weeks recuperation. It's a 'non-cemented' joint, meaning the body has to adhere to it naturally. This process takes about three months, and there are many things one cannot do for that period...and one of them is sitting at an angle more acute than 90 degrees (which is why the long car ride did me in).
I have much bruising and swelling and pain, but I'm happy to have my cyber-friends, and I'm happy to be home for Father's Day.

Hey JB! Glad to hear you're home. Happy Father's Day!

I'm sure you're in a lot of pain and discomfort, but being home again and with those two adorable kids... well I'm sure that helps! :-)

Please keep us posted on your recovery!

... and if there's any other Fathers out there, Happy Father's Day to you too!

Glad you're home. That's always the best place to recuperate.

NGB... Its weird to see our dad's getting old - I for one can not believe that my dad who used to hear me coming in at 4am in my younger days NOW has a difficult time hearing me when I am right in front of him talking. I think I could have used his hearing loss when I was 19 and NOT now.

My daddy is so cute!!

JB, glad you are home and on the mend. And Happy Father's Day too! NGB, I am and always have been proud to be daddy's girl, even at 30-something. I worry about him every day what with him being diabetic and having had a heart attack at 54. I hope you have a wonderful visit with your Paw!

Well, I've never been Daddy's Girl, but will admit to having been Mommy's Baby Boy. I was the one who got sympathy from her as a hungover teenager, while my siblings were just drunken a-holes.

My Dad and I are much closer than when I was a teenager, and even a young adult. We both see that the other one wasn't such a pain in the ass after all. It's hard for men to say "I love you" to each other, but Paw and I have been able to do it for just the past few years, although we don't make a habit of it. Paw told me one time that when Bro-in-Law's Dad was dying of cancer, Bro-in-Law's Dad (Pepere) told Paw to tell my brother and me that he loves us, before it's too late. Knowing he was terminal, Pepere had finally gotten up the guts to tell his three sons how he felt about them. Learning from that, I have told Little Bro Dan that I love him, and says "me too". Again, not a habit, but at appropriate times, like when we're saying goodbye with a big hug, knowing it'll be a while before we actually see each other again, even though we chat online and talk on the phone frequently.
